Maria Gutiérrez is Associate Professor at UC3M Business and member of the Consulting Committee of the Spanish National Securities Market Commission (CNMV). Together with  Maribel Sáez from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, she coauthored a report on the treasury stock operations carried out by Spanish companies.  

Interviewed by the newspaper El País, the two experts warn about how Spanish companies might be using treasury stock operations to "stabilize or manipulate prices", thus misleading investors about the true underlying risk of buying the stock of these companies.
