Elcio Mendonça is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Business Administration at University Carlos III of Madrid. After earning a PhD at University Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, he has been a visiting researcher at Leeds University (UK), where he also  contributes as an external researcher at the Centre for Operations and Supply Chain Research (COSCR), Leeds University Business School. In 2009 he was awarded by the Spanish Centre of Logistics (CEL) as a finalist in the category “Premio CEL Universidad” for his doctoral thesis. In 2016, his paper "How 'smart cities' will change supply chain management" published in Supply Chain Management: An International Journal has been selected by the journal's editorial team as the Outstanding Paper in the 2016 Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence. His main area of research is supply chain management (SCM). He is presently investigating the interfaces between sustainable supply chain management, supply networks and complexity theory. He has published in prestigious journals such as the Journal of Supply Chain Management, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, the International Journal of Production Research, Supply Chain Management: An International Journal, and IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management. Moreover, he has published some results of his research at specialized magazines in the areas of Purchasing and Logistics, such as Gestión de Compras and Logicel. He also contributes as an ad hoc reviewer to the Journal of Supply Chain Management, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, the International Journal of Production Research and the International Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management. He is also an expert reviewer of the Spanish National Agency of Research Projects Evaluation (ANEP).
